Micronauts by Walter-Ostlie Micronauts by Walter-Ostlie
Who knows who these dudes are?

11x17 bristol PITT pens and ink wash, some minimal digital colors.

This was another piece for Penciljack.com PUMMEL competition. I won this one, I lost the last one (the gambit vs. grifter).

Walter, i think seeing the Micronauts done in your distinctive style of drawing is pretty cool. i especially like the appropriately dramatic perspective of which Baron Karza. i'm a big Bill Mantlo fan and aside from the Micronauts i was a really big Rom Spaceknight fan. if you ever do anything for him i'd be happy to feature it on the Rom blog: [link] the extra exposure couldn't hurt right? by the way i'm the guy who's gonna feature your King Shark rendering on the Suicide Squad blog.

Thanks. I hadn't ever heard of Rom before. I'll keep him in mind once I get back to daily warmups. Thanks for the King Shark post also.

King Shark was done digital from start to finish. The coloring was done with a grainy brush, just one of the default chalk brushes that comes with photoshop.

More Micronaut pieces? Sadly no. I don't get many requests for them. I'll try to sneak one in one day.

Thank you. They are a unique group of characters for sure. I wonder what a DC relaunch would make them look like :-)

That would be interesting to see. Though I would like to see Marvel do it again since some of the character belong to Marvel while others are from the toys.

good. we're getting ready to move back to virgina... so things have been hectic. my biggest setback is juggling thru all the stuff im trying to learn. on one side i have penciling, then comic coloring... then inking and then digital painting. digital painting is the biggest beast of them all and it feels the more i learn how to paint and work with values, the better my pencils and everything else gets. so it's like some crazy circle that at the moment is really slowing me down... but i know it'll pay in the long run. let me know where you can purchase your books so we can link them on our site dude.

I am working on getting Cubicles available. In the meantime, if anyone wants it, they can just paypal the money to me wallyisazero at yahoo dot com and I will mail it to them.

Thanks man. Sometimes I get in this rut and feel like I haven't improved at all, so it is great to hear that from someone's who's really seen me from my artistic infancy.

I second kingofsnake, you're doing better and better (and all that very fast in my terms). The chick on the right is the best.
